A wader banding team prepares the cannon net ...
 
which is placed in a line along the ground ...
 
 
and camouflaged using sand ...
 
Holes are dug for the cannons, which propel the net ...
 
and Clive checks the electrics, which allow the cannons to fire simultaneously.
 
After a successful catch, the birds are put in shady 'keeping cages' and processed by the team.
 
Processing involves weighing, measuring and banding the birds.
 
 
These photos were taken around Broome in August and September 1998,
during the VWSG / AWSG Expedition to north-west Western Australia.
